Müller Fed 10,024 Orphans by Prayer

Faith in God’s Provision

What would you attempt if you knew—really knew—that God would provide? I faced that question when I felt called to attend a Discipleship Training School(DTS)but didn’t have the money. Two weeks before the deadline, I was still short by two-thirds. Then, on the exact day payment was due, someone showed up at my doorstep with $200 more than I needed.

That one experience stretched my faith. But imagine living that way constantly—for decades. Meet George Müller, a man who fed 10,024 orphans without asking anyone but God for money.

Radical Faith of George Müller

George once met a man who was working nonstop just to support his family. The guy was exhausted with little time for anything else. George told him to trust God to provide. But the man was honest—he didn’t have that kind of faith.

That conversation sparked something in George. He wanted to show that it was possible to live by faith—really live it out—if you were walking in line with what God wanted for your life.

He did this by building and running a home for orphans without asking anyone for donations and relying only on God for provision.

Miracles of God’s Provision

One morning, the orphans woke up with no food for breakfast. Instead of panicking, Müller prayed with the children, thanking God in advance for the meal they were about to receive. Moments later, a baker arrived with fresh bread, explaining that he had felt led to bake for the orphanage during the night. Simultaneously, a milkman’s cart broke down outside the orphanage. Rather than letting the milk spoil, he donated it to the children.

During a cholera outbreak, countless children were left orphaned. Müller prayed for more resources to care for them, and miraculously, food, supplies, and donations continued to pour in.

Joy in Trusting God

Sure, there were moments when money was tight. But George found joy in relying on God. When he felt led to move the orphans to a bigger space, the whole process stretched his faith. An architect even offered his services for free, and the landowner agreed to sell the land for much less than the original price. God continued to provide.

Later, after many years, George received a heartfelt letter from one of the orphanage boys. The young man thanked him for food, education, care—but most of all, for introducing him to Jesus.

Müller’s childlike faith led many orphans and adults to know Jesus. Throughout his lifetime he cared for 10,024 orphans in all.

If we trusted God with childlike faith like George Müller, we could make an extraordinary difference.

You Can Ask God, Too

Müller’s story might seem extraordinary—the stuff of spiritual giants. But here’s the truth—his faith isn’t set aside for a select few. When I needed provision for DTS, God met me the same way He met Müller—right on time, exactly what was needed. The difference? Müller lived this way every single day for fifty years.

Most of us are like the man George met. We work hard and hustle to make ends meet because, well—that’s just what people do. But what if we tried something different?

Jesus said, “Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33). What if we actually did that? What if we started praying for our needs—and trusted God to come through?

When have you seen God provide unexpectedly? What would you attempt if you knew God would provide? Write about a time you had to choose between hustling and trusting.
